my son overview - world heritage site

My son is located near Duy Phu village in the administrative district of Duy Xuyen in Quang Nam province in Central Vietnam, about 60 km from Hoi An town. My Son became a religious centre under King Bhadravarman in the late 4th century and was constantly occupied until the 13th century - the longest period of development of any monument in Southeast Asia( compared to the 3 century lasting development of Angkor and Bagan). Most of My Son's temples were delicated to Cham kings associated with divinities, especially Silva. The god was regarded as the founder and protector of charmpa's dynasties.

hoi an tour

Most of My Son's temples were made of red brick except the stone-made temple labelled "B1". Even the decorative carvings on the Cham temples were cut directly onto the bricks themselves, rather than onto sandstone slabs inserted into brick walls as is observable for example in the 9th century Cambodian temple of Bakong.

Upto now, the construction techniques used by the Cham builders have not been completely understood even though many reseaches and conferences have been made by international scientists and scholars. Issues that have not been completely resolved include issues about the firing of the bricks, the mortar between the bricks, and decorative carvings found on the bricks. This is the reason to discover My Son. Upto now, My Son is one of highlights for Vietnam tour packages
